Did Prehistoric create bracelet charms?

Wearing bracelet charms could have begun as a being a talisman, used to ward off bad luck and spirits.

Early bracelet charms came from early man, they would make jewellery from bones, shells and mud to and this continued over the next few thousand years;

  • 75,000 years ago in Africa, people would used shells to adorn themselves
  • In Germany some 30,000 years ago, men would carve out mammoth tusks, turning them into charms
  • Egypt at around the same time, charms were used as symbols of religion and considered lucky
  • In Roman times christian’s used to carry a fish shaped charm to prove their faith and Jewish scholars would wear tiny charm lockets around their necks containing passages from their scriptures
  • Knights in believed in Medieval times charms protected them in battle
  • Dark Age charms represented the origin of a family and their religion

England’s Queen Victoria began another trend, the Queen wore charms as a fashion. The Queens trend then entered the European nobles. (more…)
